Role: Internet Age Sales Person

Below we set out marketing functions of the operation, selling functions of the operation, specific responsibilities and attributes of the successful candidate. The responsibilities are there for negotiation. No candidate of course will have all the attributes listed below and indeed the founders readily confess that they each lack several of such attributes.


As to the marketing functions, the operation:

  • Has now a presence on Amazon just as a “shop window” but seeks other platforms.

  • Means materially to focus on and develop its social media presence with strong consumer engagement via e.g. Instagram together with other digital marketing platforms. There is a requirement pls to find and engage influencers. The founders are of perhaps riper years and weak in these areas.

  • Has applied for a presence with the highest profile up market outlet, Fortnum & Mason.

  • Will attend festivals and events. The operation will pick the right events which events have the right attendees. The operation has entered for awards in the Great British Food Awards competition. Others will follow.

  • Means to create additional marketing interest. The operation may for instance be able to source tea from a “Single Estate” in Sri Lanka or Kenya. There are discussions with producers in each country. The operation means to create additional marketing interest also with a strong focus on sustainability issues.

  • Means to push and market the iced tea firmly as a cocktail mixer. It works well. Recipes are provided on Instagram and The operation may use for these mixers a 150ml can.

    Wishes to place some emphasis now on children. A completely unexpected finding from sales so far has been that children absolutely love the iced tea. Whole cans all gone on the school run home. Parents are most happy to let them have it because it is low calorie and has healthy ingredients.


    As to the selling functions, the operation:

  • Makes already “shop window” sales on Amazon and soon possibly via Ocado and/or other fulfilment platforms.

  • Intends that a material focus for sales will be via fulfilment by the operation of sales generated from its social media presence e.g. Instagram together with other digital marketing platforms. The operation makes most profitably online sales already (see link below).

  • Has identified and will seek strategic wholesale partners if the deal is right. Already, subject to the operation securing sales in three specified outlets, a major South West wholesaler may distribute the iced tea for the operation.

  • Sells already in the on-trade market with local and national hospitality operations.

  • Sells already in the off-trade market with local and national retailers, convenience stores and garage forecourts.

    The successful candidate will also assist in the day-to-day operations of the business, managing an array of sales and marketing, research and administrative tasks.


    Specific responsibilities will include:

    • Managing the operation’s online profile
    • Online and telephone research
    • Market research/mapping
    • Managing the operation’s customer database
    • Ad hoc projects
    • Attending customer briefings and conference calls
    • Attending external networking, sales and marketing events

    Attributes of the successful candidate will show that he/she has:

    • Excellent communication and presentational skills.
    • A proactive personality with first class rapport-building skills.
    • An ability to network and build long-lasting client relationships.
    • That he/she is resourceful, full of initiative and highly organised.
    • That he/she can deal with customer-facing exposure from day 1.
    • A willingness to take some direct management from the founding “partner”.
    • Strong written skills.
    • A strong academic background (ideally, but not restricted to a minimum 2:1 from a good University).
    • Excellent research skills.
    • Ability to work quickly and accurately and to prioritise.
    • Tenacity, ambition and drive with a strong work ethic.
    • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
    • Strong tech skills which are essential, including the current zeitgeists in social media (which may today be Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin) as well as Excel and PowerPoint.
    • An ability to devise and carry out a targeted research strategy.
    • An ability to research and map relevant target markets.
    • A clear view on strategic objectives.
    • An ability to offer guidance and facilitate the negotiation process with larger customers through to completion.
    • An ability to originate business.
    • A demonstrable track record.
    • Business acumen and market insight.
    • Ability to be a team player who enjoys working in a collaborative and later perhaps collegiate atmosphere.

Sales-person with impeccable credentials in the on-trade and off-trade field required to assist the commercial director in further promoting product sales.
